A discussion of the Second Life Interest Group on 4 September suggested the following initial management strategy.

1. Divide the island into four sections

1.1 Public area open to all, with information about Murdoch University

1.2 Area for ICT333 project - Open to "Murdoch University" group, with some areas restricted to "ICT333" group

1.3 "Ideas Town" section containing a sandbox and space for experiments by the Murdoch University Community - open to "Murdoch University" group

1.4 Unused

Any ideas for ongoing projects should be sent to Kathryn , Kate or Chris K.

Ideas discussed:

  • Area for Postgraduate / PhD students
  • Class spaces for Foundation Units
  • Integrations with Live Classroom discussions
  • Partnering with industry
  • Selling objects to self-fund the island

The island was delievered on 28 September and has been divided into quarters:

1. ICT333 - Job interview simulation has been built here for students in the unit TLC277 "University to Work"

2. Admin and development

3. Public - This will have public information about the university.

4. Murdoch Community Ideas Space - a place where staff/students of Murdoch University can experiment with building and scripting Second Life items. Half of this island is devoted to "Crime City" - where a role play simulation for Forensic Science is being built.

The public area is currently being constructed. however a viewing platform at the centre of the island will soon be public.
